TEAM DEVELOPMENT AND YOUR ROLE AS A TEAM MEMBER
“Setting an example is not the main means of influencing another,
it is the only means” - Albert Einstein
It goes without saying that a lot of what we do today is done as a team rather than just as an individual.
Discoveries in medicine, making a movie, creating a successful organization, and winning at sports may often recognize individual talent; however, the outcome is frequently because of the team.
So what is your role on the team and how do you help it (and yourself) become successful?
Most of what I’ve learned about teams leads me to believe there are four basic stages that a team will go through — initial formation, adaptation and learning, planning, and realization of the goal.
Simply put, a group of people will come together for a common objective, learn about each other’s skills and adapt to each other’s nuances, plan how to reach their goal, and ultimately be successful in their quest.
And if you are part of this team you are vital to that success. So it is important to understand your role as a team member.
One of the easiest ways I’ve found to do this is to ACT like a successful team member.
